Meet One of the Chefs Behind Chowbotics

Chef Kelly Olazar has spent the last 13 years as a professional chef, working with prestigious mentors including Scott Giambastiani, David Kinch, and her role model, Charlie Ayers. Her motto, “Happy cooks make yummy food” has served her well; she has had the opportunity to cook for some of the world’s most well-known and influential individuals such as Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Sergey Brin, Larry Page, and James Franco.

 

Now, Chef Olazar has taken on a new arena in the culinary world: food robotics. A pioneer in the intersection of technology and food, she is working with Chowbotics to create fresh, ingredient driven recipes for Sally, the salad-making robot.

 

What is it like to be a chef at a robotics company?

It is a lot of fun being a chef at a robotics company. I get to see what once used to be Sci-Fi become reality. I enjoying working with the engineers to give a robot the “human touch”.

 

How is it working with Sally?

Working with Sally is rewarding and challenging at the same time. Teaching Sally to sprinkle on each ingredient, keeping it in its ideal condition is completely different than teaching a cook. Sally doesn’t learn from watching me but instead by me being descriptive and teaching the engineers how things are supposed to look and feel.
