Salt & Straw Opens in Hayes + October Flavors


Family-run Salt & Straw ice cream company will be opening their second San Francisco scoop shop this Friday, October 18 at 586 Hayes Street! Stop by this weekend to try their new seasonal flavors at this location, open daily from 11am – 11pm.



This October, Salt & Straw invites you to celebrate Halloween all month long with five Spooktacular flavor creations including The Great Candycopia, Dracula’s Blood Pudding, Essence of Ghost, Creepy Crawly Critters, and Freckle & Hyde Potion. From an abundance of homemade candy to blood pudding, chocolate covered crickets, and swirls of ghosts, these flavors are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth.


The October flavors will be available from Friday, September 29th through Tuesday, October 31st and include:


The Great Candycopia

Guaranteed to deliver “shock-olate” delight, The Great Candycopia features a tasty combo of salted butterscotch ice cream and an abundance of homemade snickers, whoppers, heath bars, and peanut butter cups.


Dracula’s Blood Pudding

A heady mix of spices and cream cooked into real blood pudding, Dracula’s Blood Pudding was crafted specifically for Halloween “thrill shreekers.”


Essence of Ghost

A sherbet so creepy and delicious, it’ll give you chills. Conceptually, jets of tasty gray pass through the deep foggy sherbet, delivering a shrill set of flavors that are bitter, sweet and slightly musky.


Creepy Crawly Critters

Not for the faint at heart, Creepy Crawly Critters features chocolate covered crickets and coconut toffee-brittle covered mealworms blended into a matcha ice cream.


Freckle & Hyde Potion

To capture the taste and sensation of Dr. Jekyll’s transformative potion, distilling this haunting moment in literature into a single scoop, Freckle & Hyde Potion boasts a cranberry sorbet freckled with dark chocolate and a bitter melon coconut sherbet with coconut ash coated pop rocks.



Planning a trip to San Francisco’s Museum of Ice Cream? Now through November 6th, you can enjoy Salt & Straw’s Museum of Ice Cream flavor, made exclusively for the San Francisco pop-up. The special flavor is a Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons ice cream, topped with a single origin coffee magic shell. One of Salt & Straw’s favorite chocolatiers to collaborate with, Portland-based Cocanu, created this one-of-a-kind magic shell for the ice cream by roasting and grinding coffee beans, vanilla and a touch of cacao using the same method you would use in chocolate, creating a velvety liquid of perfectly pure coffee. For more information on the Museum of Ice Cream, click here.
